A brief about USA student visa

Many students look forward to pursue higher studies in USA as it has top universities in the world. Studying in those colleges itself is a first step of getting a better career ahead. Getting admitted in those colleges need not require your academics but also need a lot of work, as the student has to deal with the legal formalities of traveling to USA.

Being an Indian student if you are looking for an admission in one of those colleges then the first thing you want is to get a USA student Visa from the US embassy. In India there are 5 places where you will find an US Embassy, which are New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. You can contact any one of them and apply for your USA student Visa.

The process for getting an USA student visa is quite long and a bit complicated as compared to getting a normal visa. But it can be made a little fast, if you are well prepared and have all the required documents with you, then you can start your journey at a US university soon.

There are different type of visas but as you are going for academic purpose, you need to apply for a F-class USA student Visa. These visas are meant for those who are planning to pursue their full time degree courses in US which can be graduate course or a post graduate course.

You will be getting a Form DS-160, be sure that you complete it before going for the interview for getting the visa. After completing it, take a print out of the confirmation page which will be having a barcode on it. Then you have to visit the approved bank in order to pay the fee for your visa application. Keep the receipt of the payment safely with you.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you have the I-20 form, which is being issued by the USA colleges for confirming the enrolment of the student. And make sure that you paid the I-901 fee online via US immigration and customs enforcement website only. Keep the payment receipt with you.

After doing all these mandatory things, you can make an appointment for your USA student visa interview through the online website of VFS, which will require your barcode number of DS-160 form and payment receipt of bank.

While preparing for the visa interview make sure that you arrive at the venue 15 minutes before the given time and you must have the following documents with you.

  • A valid passport and any previously issued passports
  • Recent passport size photograph
  • Printout of DS-160 Confirmation page along with the barcode
  • Bank fee receipt
  • VFS appointment letter
  • SEVIS and I-20 form

You can check the list of the documents by visiting the US embassy website, for any sort of changes in it. So that at the time of interview you are prepared and there will be less chances of delay because of any missing document.
