Rajasthan is one of the states that have witnessed expansion in the number of technical institutes over past couple of years. There are close to 150 engineering colleges in the state, comprising of public, private and semi-public establishments.

For an engineering aspirant there’s a wide range of colleges available to choose from. The state has some top notch institutes like Birla Institute of Technology & Science - Pilani (BITS Pilani), Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur and Government Engineering College Ajmer.

These premier institutes have a highly selective admission procedure; therefore a majority of aspirants are not able to get through them. The institutes carry out admission on the basis of the all-India level entrance examinations – JEE Main/ JEE Advanced or exams conducted by them.

Birla Institute of Technology & Science - Pilani (BITS Pilani) is one such institute that conducts its own entrance exam – BITSAT and carries out admission on the basis of the same. While others accept the ranks obtained in JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

JEE Main is the all India engineering entrance examination held for admission to undergraduate engineering programs offered by the NITs and IIITs. Apart from NITs and IIITs, a wide range of private institutes also accept JEE scores.

JEE Main is the preliminary examination that an aspirant needs to appear for, to get through an IIT. Only the top 1.5 lakh scorers of JEE Main are eligible to take JEE Advanced. Further, the ones who qualify JEE advanced are required to participate in the GD/PI rounds for the final selection.

Apart from the apex engineering institutes, the state also envelopes a range of medical institutes that accept Rajasthan Pre-Medical Test (RPMT) scores and conduct admissions on the basis of the same.

Rpmt is conducted by Rajasthan University of Health Sciences every year. The minimum eligibility to appear for the exam is that a candidate should have passed the final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) of Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan or any other examination recognized equivalent thereto by Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan.

The exam is usually held in the last week of May, while the results are declared in the month of June.
