How September 11 changed company policies on using security seals, RFID labels

In the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and later attacks on the London Double Decker buses, many companies have changed some of their security policies related to security sealed shipping containers, sealed packages which contain RFID labels on materials and a dunnage bag that protect products from being damaged enroute. When, where, and the number of security seals used is closely monitored and recorded in a company’s security log for up to 30 days.

Security companies have stepped up their efforts to increase safety for their customers and the public in general. One of the ways company employees of any security company have approached this task, is to be more vigilant of any suspicious behaviour or activity in the area. Accurately tracking security seals and products that contain RFID labels is not enough to protect the public from terrorist attacks or hinder theft issues during the shipment of important ship’s cargo or airplane’s cargo.

Adding more steps to safety and watching packages closely

Companies (whose job is to keep the public safe) have enacted more steps to ensure safety. Shipping logs are required to list a detailed description of what a ship is carrying in any shipping container that’s secured with security seals and also may include RFID labels and/or tags tags. In order to ensure products stay securely in place during shipping, some companies may place a dunnage bag or more stuffing in the empty space between containers or products. This keeps the contents from shifting and spilling during the shipping process.

Some security companies have hired extra security to watch shipping containers and packages until they are delivered or picked up by their owners. This ensures that there is no product tampering of any shipping crates and dunnage bags. This also insures that shipped products (with RFID labels inside) remain safe until their reach the hands of the consumer.

This is why security seals, RFID labels, and a dunnage bag or two is needed during shipping; to ensure that the public remains safe from any suspected terrorist attack.
