Just as you must program your remote to control your television, your dog needs training to respond to your direction as well. Your dog has the potential to be everything you want it to be, you just have to follow the right steps. Dogs are inborn to learn training, but need the help of their owner.

Use control to acknowledge positive behavior while training. When your dog responds to a command in the right way, you should reward this behavior when he is calm. Even though your accomplishment might thrill you, they reflect your energy. Do not lose control of any situation with contagious excitement and enthusiasm. Remain calm, expect the dog to be calm and provide appropriate rewards.

Be patient when teaching your dog, it will take some time. You may need to repeat the command more than 20 or 30 times. Try using the command more often and be very patient if you want your dog to learn.

The rule of thumb with puppies and house training is to remember: what is eaten will pass. To help regulate your dog's bowel movements, feed him 2-3 times per day. Doing this will provide you with some idea of when you should let your puppy go outside to use the restroom. This will decrease the risk of any accidents.

It is very easy to teach a pooch to roll over as long as you have some tasty treats on hand. Firstly, have the dog lie down. Next, you must hold one treat close to the floor off to one side of their head and slowly bring it up and over the dog's head to the opposite side. They'll follow your treat with their nose which will cause them to roll over. When he rolls over, you should say "roll over," and repeat the process until the command is all he needs to do so. Be patient while he masters this trick. He will be a star once he does!

Every day, try to allow your pet to have an hour or so of exercise. This is on top of regular training lessons and restroom breaks. Making sure your dog has enough exercise makes training sessions more effective and encourages regular good behavior from your dog. A dog who has received plenty of exercise is happier and more responsive.

Once you can bring out a dog's ability to be trained, it is just a matter of consistently practicing the techniques. As much as the owner will be pleased with what the dog has learned, the dog will also be happy.
