All living beings need energy to grow, different forms of organisms utilize different form of energy for survival. Sunlight is a primary form of nourishment for plants, and all flora requires sunlight to grow. It helps them in conducting the process of photosynthesis, which comprises of conversion of sunlight into simple sugar. In absence of sunlight, a plant will simply not attain the nutrition and ultimately die away, as it essentially requires sunlight to manufacture its food.

Plant lights, popularly referred to as grow lights are artificial sources of lights, which can act as a source of nourishment for budding plants. Grow lights help a plant to grow by providing it with the electromagnetic spectrum which it essentially required for its growth. These can be installed anywhere that experiences low sunlight.

Plant lights should not be confused with ordinary lights as the growth needs of plants are wavelength specific. In other words, plants are receptive to the varying colors within the spectrum. Ordinary light bulbs do not contain the spectrum of light that plants need to survive and thrive.

Unlike other forms of artificial lighting, LED grow light have a long life of 50,000+ hours of usage. One great characteristic (which is unique to LED grow lights) is that it never fuses out and instead they lose their intensity over time. This means you never have to replace the entire unit because of a blown bulb.

Being highly efficient means they can help you save a lot on your energy bill. Other forms of grow lights (such as HPS or MH) can run up your energy bill. Since LEDs are energy efficient there is a good chance that you won’t even notice a difference on your bill.

LED technology emits a minimal amount of heat as compared to other forms of lighting and does not cause any sort of harm to your plants even when used in close proximity. LED grow lights often do not need any additional heat sinks, ballasts or fans to help decrease or offset their heat. This means the entire grow light set up costs less, is more energy efficient and is safer for the plant since burning leaves or drying them out is less likely.

If you live in a place which has minimal exposure to sun and are thinking about using artificial lighting for your garden then selecting LED grow lights as your preferred plant light can provide you with the most effective solution for starting seeds, cloning your favorite plants, growing an indoor herb garden, giving extra life to a dying houseplant or taking care of your finicky orchid.
