Summer is almost here so now’s the perfect time to enhance your rooms with bold colour ideas. To work out which combinations of colours go well together it’s helpful to look at a colour wheel. Complementary and contrasting colours are explained to get the best look for your rooms. Use the guide below to learn how to create bright rooms for the summer throughout the year:

For hot new living room trends opt for a mixture of greens and blues with different mixes of the two colours for furniture and accessories. Patterned wallpaper designs can create the perfect backdrop or choose to make a bright statement with boldly painted walls. Add borders for interest and arrange cushions on upholstery for layers and texture. Use floral patterns to make an elegant statement and warm and sunny greens for an inspirational touch.

In the kitchen introduce colours and patterns on splashbacks and walls. Use red to enhance shutters and cabinet fronts and blend with beige walls. Laminated cupboards can be re-painted using chalk-effect kitchen paint. Red has been shown to build appetites so is the ultimate colour choice! Oranges and yellow provide warm and homely options and are perfect for sophisticated kitchens too. Floor tiles are easy to lay as well as keep clean. Finish off with a range of jugs, mugs and biscuit barrels for a timeless kitchen area.

Bathrooms colour schemes can be designed around visions of beaches and waves by using neutral backgrounds and bright blues! Add a splash of yellow with vinyl wallpaper – ideal for wiping down. Use copper and silver for eye-catching colour and add co-ordinating accessories for a simple transformation. Flooring can easily be updated by choosing a geometric pattern with skirting boards painted to match. Hang an elegant mirror over the bath to refresh and add a feeling of space.

Professional painters and decorators from London claim that if you want to create gorgeous bedrooms- try using a gradient colour effect. This involves choosing three colours in dark, medium and light hues. Paint strips on the walls beginning with the darkest shade at the skirting board. Add bed linen to match with scatter and bolster cushions that co-ordinate. An expensive bedside rug will introduce pattern and luxury. Paint ceilings in a light colour to make the room feel higher, and if the room is very small opt for neutral and light, bright colours.

Remember that sunny rooms will allow you to use stronger, dark colours as well as neutral shades. Dark walls and furniture aren’t really suitable in small rooms with not much natural light. Paintings, photographs and fabrics can all be chosen as focal points of the room drawing all the colours together. Bring home sample pots of paints and swatches of materials to test small areas before you begin.

If you find that you don’t have the courage to do the work yourself why not bring in the professionals? A reputable painting and decorating service provider will send trained and experienced technicians to help and advise you.
