Back in 2013 at the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas, Dodge impressed the crowd with its Durango concept vehicle in the Mopar display. Pieces of the concept moved forward into new production models, but customers clamored for one particular option that stood out boldly from the rest. Or rather, sat out from the rest. The Radar Red Nappa leather seats that the consumers have demanded can finally be had as an option for the 2015 Dodge Durango R/T, a class-exclusive offering that's another first for Dodge.

Dodge once again gives its customers what they ask for with this newly available option. Nappa leather has long been famous for its ability to exude quality thanks to its buttery-soft feel and texture and is now available in the new rich Radar Red color to complement the aggressive sportiness of the new Durango R/T. This is in addition to the other Nappa leather options like black Nappa leather and Premium Nappa leather that Dodge has already included in its available line-up.

To help complete the enhanced style of the newly redesigned 2015 R/T, this year’s model also comes standard with all-new 20-inch wheels coated with a glossy Granite Crystal finish that’s just a shade lighter than pitch black. This new standard helps give the R/T the design edge it needs to set it above other trim levels.

Wheels and premium seating may help complete a vehicle, but there’s far more at work with the new Durango R/T. The designers at Dodge carefully planned and executed numerous revamps inside and out of the 2015 model. The R/T now rides a full 20 mm lower and has been outfitted with a unique stiff and sport-tuned suspension to give the three-row SUV the grip it needs to handle large loads and passengers under any road conditions. The menacing, monochromatic exterior features black headlamp bezels, low beam HID headlamps and LED daytime running lamps. The new Nappa leather seating features R/T embroidered logos on the seats and contrast stitching available in either red or black.

Under the hood, the 2015 R/T roars to life ready to tackle any challenge thrown at it, thanks to its 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine which bangs out a best-in-class 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. The standard eight-speed automatic transmission controlled by a segment-first rotary shifter also bears mentioning as a world-class performer. All this power allows the Dodge R/T to achieve a best-in-class tow rating capable of hauling an astounding 7,400 pounds, more than enough pull for even the toughest jobs. There’s no reason to fret about the Durango R/T being a gas-guzzler, either, thanks to the engine’s Fuel Saver Technology that deactivates cylinders when they’re not needed to give the boisterous V-8 up to 14 mpg city/23 mpg highway.

Inside the vehicle, there’s a host of available and optional features to please every driver, no matter what their needs may be. The 2015 Durango R/T seats seven passengers in its standard form, though the second row seat can be swapped out with an available pair of captain’s chairs for added comfort. The front row features an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat and a six-way adjustable passenger seat with the aforementioned available Nappa leather trim options. The Premium Nappa leather option comes in at an MSRP of only $1,995. The center instrument panel features a redesigned housing that holds the 8.4-inch U-connect touchscreen connected to the nine-speaker audio system with a 560-watt sub-woofer. The center panel also houses an SD card slot, USB outlet and auxiliary jack inputs. A rear entertainment package can also be added to the second row with options for dual Blu-ray video screens.

Dodge continues to impress in terms of safety as well. Standard safety features on the R/T include technologies like electronic stability control, a rear park assist system with rear back-up camera, hill start assist, traction control, speed control and trailer sway dampening. Available options can be added, including blind spot and cross path detection systems and the enhanced Forward Collision Warning Plus system.

Thanks to the continuous improvements Dodge has added to its Durango R/T, the 2015 model promises to be better than ever by delivering a three-row SUV that not only looks stylish thanks to its new Radar Red Nappa Leather seating option, but is capable of being a powerful and practical vehicle. Whether a driver wants to go out for an exciting, performance-pushing drive or needs to pack the family in for an extended cross-country vacation, Dodge provides with the 2015 Durango R/T.
