Finding a home to settle down with your family is one of the hardest things you’ll do as an adult. You’ll want to find a location that is not only comfortable for you to live in, but will also be a nice place to raise your children in.

Once you have found the place that you’ve been dreaming of, you may feel like the weight has finally been lifted off of your shoulders - until you realize that you’re going to have to move everything you own. There is no doubt that moving can be an overwhelming and stressful experience. There probably isn’t one person who actually enjoys moving, but once you get to where you’re going, you won’t look back with any regrets.

In order to get through the moving process easier, preparing for your big move will help the day not only go by smoother, but you’ll finish moving all of your stuff before you know it.

Create a Checklist

Whether you’re an organized or unorganized person, a checklist is going to benefit everyone in your family. You can create an easy checklist in many different ways - in fact, there is no wrong way to make a list.

You can make a list that organizes all of your belongings into each vehicle they are travelling in; a list can be made organizing items in the order that they need to be packed; or you could make a list that puts urgent items in the front, allowing you to relax in between the move or keep the moving truck overnight. The possibilities are endless.

If you’re moving far from your current residence, you can also make a list of what needs to be done on the property or in the city before you go. This way, once you get to your new home, you won’t have to drive back and forth for various reasons.

Rent a Storage Space

Renting a storage space is a great way to prepare for your move. Not only will you have a location for your items that you don’t necessarily need right away, but you’ll also be able to relocate them to a facility that is closer to your new residence. This will save you from having to drive a moving truck to and from your old home. For many residents, they must be out of their current location by a certain date, so moving your bigger items in advance can help you have a stress-free moving date.

A storage space is also beneficial, because you can keep any items you don’t have room for or don’t know where you want to put them right away. Moving is often stressful because you don’t know where your couches or tables should go. If these items are out of the way, you can appropriately place them in your home, one at a time.

Begin Packing Immediately

Obviously you’ll need to keep out the things that you use on a daily basis, but once you are aware of your moving date, you should begin packing immediately.

Packing items that you don’t use or won’t need for awhile will help alleviate some of the stress that comes with moving. It can be difficult to try and pack your entire house in one week, which is often why packing and moving is such a taxing experience. Once you begin accumulating boxes and boxes of items that you don’t need or use, you can always put them into the storage unit that you rented so they’re out of the way in your home.

Not very many people would deny that moving is tough, but if you go into the situation prepared, you’ll make the whole experience go by quickly and calmly.
