Interior shutters: Investing In the best Ones
Posted: May 26, 2015
The interior designing field has a lot many options to offer when it comes to embellishing the old and traditional spaces of your residence and offices. If you are bored of the existing décor and wish to experiment with your doors and windows, then interior shutters are the right product for you. They are perfect alternatives to the shades, draperies and age old conventional curtains. They add a touch of modernism to the overall look of the space where they are installed.
Interior shutters are firm coverings, hinged on either side of the window. As the name implies, they are attached on the inside and swing likewise providing access to the window. They serve like an additional support for windows working to moderate the amount of light entering through them.
The Materials employed in making Interior Shutters
The interior shutter is majorly made by using Basswood. The specialty of this wood is that it is lightweight and has a tight grainy texture that helps in preventing moisture. It can also be stained or painted easily and comes in soft colors.
Fibers and wood strands are used to make wood shutters that are carefully engineered. The materials are bound together that make them stiff, rigid and highly durable as compared to the traditional wood. They come in a smooth finish and are elegantly priced.
Made of recycled synthetic, Plywood is another ideal alternative. This is highly sustainable and energy efficient. It is free of warping, chipping and cracking enhancing the longevity of this material. Plywood comes in white and minimal shades and can always be customized according to one’s choice.
The available styles
A large percentage of interior shutters have a horizontal louver and a vertical rod that allows the adjustment of the blades. These blades or pins moderate the amount of light and air that the shutter allows. They can be moved up and down easily making these shutters popular and free to adjust.
Usually the shutters are made of wedge-shaped louvers that are 1¼ to 1¾ inches in width. The small openings allow little amount of wind to pass through and so such shutters are popular in colder countries.
The plantation shutters have elliptical louvers that are wider than the traditional ones being 2½ to 4½ inches wide. The wider fins (louvers) allow more air to pass and block the direct hot rays of the sun. this feature has made them a must in the warmer regions like European countries. They are very easy to blend with interiors as they have a unique sense of sophistication about them. They are the top choice among designers, given their usage and style.
There are some others that have no louvers like the panel shutters. They can be used for decorative purposes as they can be cut easily into different dimensions. They are less preferred as they themselves need to be opened in absence of louvers. Please click here for more info at
