Importance of Listing Ingredients In Cosmetics
Posted: May 26, 2015
Cosmetic companies have come to realise increasingly that customer these days are very sensitive about their personal choice when it comes to ingredients in beauty products as some of the ingredients may not suit an individual customer.
So "ingredient listing" have now become compulsory on skincare products, and that their introduction was a huge help to those with allergies to cosmetic ingredients. Later introduction of law compelling certain fragrance allergens to be listed further helped those with known fragrance allergies.
Moreover Customers today are aware about allergic health considerations, about lifestyle, about religious sensibilities – so much so that Private labelling has become incredibly helpful to even those who are not allergic to certain ingredients.
Therefore rightly said Private label Cosmetic companies do & must list ‘plain English’ versions of their ingredients on their packaging, as this can be very helpful, especially to non-sensitive consumers, who simply – and quite reasonably – want to know what is in the products they use on their bodies.
Those of us who have food allergies or intolerances may be aware that the way food allergens are conveyed on pre-packaged foods has recently changed. Now, the 14 food allergens – which include milk, peanuts, nuts and cereals containing gluten – must be highlighted in some way on ingredients lists. This highlighting is usually bold, but it can also be underlined or in the form of capital letters, or indeed a combination of various styles.
So also something similar is being followed in skincare and cosmetic labelling. This would, in theory, help highlight the ingredients for those who get allergic to certain ingredients and so need to avoid those allergy causing products. The problem is that, in food, there are only 14 key allergens, but in skincare, there are 26 fragrance allergens – with recommendations that these should be increased substantially – and other ingredients which arguably should be added to any future list of highlight able allergens, thus the list of ingredients is subject to changes & constant updates.
Therefor today when it comes to ingredient management private labelling cosmetic companies are learning as to how to draw the line between too much information and not enough information.
Since if more information is added to labelling which may not necessarily be under the list of ingredients but could be anywhere on the packaging which would then make it trickier &slightly more time consuming to find any single piece of information on the product. Thus along with formulation, packaging also matters as it enables Private label cosmetic manufacturers to stock a vast array of packaging components on site as per the production requirements, this would give an abundance of options to choose from, all aesthetically pleasing and constructed from the highest quality materials.
