Properties of PTFE
Posted: May 28, 2015
PTFE is a synthetic fluoropolymer that has become famous for its numerous applications. The unique properties of Ptfe has made it usable for home as well as huge industrial application. Ptfe is a hydrophobic material, hence water or water containing substances don’t wet Ptfe, and so they are used as nonstick coating for pans and other cooking ware. Ptfe Components Manufacturer make these components non-reactive so they are often used in industrial factories for pipework and containers so they won’t react to corrosive elements.
Properties
Ptfe Components Exporters provide components that are resistant to many chemical, electrical or temperature and friction rate changes.
- Corrosion resistant: Ptfe components are usually several millimeters thick and hence, can protect the stainless steel against any kind of corrosion, be it they may from acids or alkali. Ptfe can excellently resist almost all corrosive chemicals, removing the need for expensive special alloys. This leads to reduction in installation cost of stainless steel pipeline or containers. Sometimes, metal catalysts like Lead, Nickel etc. can lead to small reactions with stainless steel and also sometimes stick to them, making it difficult to remove or rub off. The risk of cross contamination also decreases with Ptfe coating as they do not let these metal catalysts stick to the steel
- Dielectric Strength: This refers to the amount of electric field that an insulating material can withstand without breaking down, or without the failure of insulating property. Dielectric strength of Ptfe is affected by the change in the number or size of voids or bubble in the compound created by particle fusion. Ptfe Components Manufacturer make compounds in which almost perfect particle fusion occurs, so it has a high and reliable dielectric strength.
- Tensile Strength: Ptfe has a high tensile strength as it is able to withstand a great number of stress or load before breaking off. The tensile strength of Ptfe is affected by the number of internal bubbles or foreign impurities present in the material and the bonding of the molecules. If there are more bubbles in the material, the degree of elongation and strength will decrease.
- Specific Gravity: This is the ratio of density of substance to density of reference substance. Because of the foreign substances or microscopic bubbles, there is usually a difference between the actual and the experimental figures, so they usually stay between 0.5 to 1%.
Ptfe Components Exporters provide good quality components that are made with premium raw materials and tested before dispatching it to the customers.
