In a country as competitive as India being in any sort of business, be it large-scaled or small-scaled, achieving maximum profitability is the crux. But, in a few cases as that of big MNCs they undertake activities to help the needy. This increases their expenses which in turn diminishes their profit. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has evolved as one of the most important features of corporate culture in today’s times, where companies undertake activities that help strengthen the social strata of the vulnerable. Profit organization and non-profit organization should focus on doing the best for society, irrespective of their reason of existence.

Any organization which is not fundamentally running for profit maximization should be backed by government of the home country. Since, they are indirectly helping the government in their work they should assist them and provide the organization their valuable support. Various non-governmental organizations are operating all over the country with the sole motive of serving the country. By addressing the major issues prevailing in the country, there have been a lot of initiatives and programs taken by the NPOs and companies in the form of corporate social responsibility. The foundations in India have focused on issues like illiteracy, corruption, women empowerment, poverty, improper education and over population that hamper the economic growth of the country. They work towards spreading awareness in the rural areas, tier-3 cities and villages about their rights and duties towards the country. Usually, people living in these places are very willing to constantly learn and improve themselves and increase their standard of living.

These institutions usually prove to be very helpful in case of a disaster. They have a lot of contacts and a huge network, which can be used to collect funds and commodities which might be needed in emergency situations. Events such as earthquakes, floods and tsunamis can leave a tremendous amount of physical and psychological impact on huge amounts of people, who can benefit, from an NGO in India, which can help them by collecting funds from individuals willing to donate and provide them to the needy.

CSR should also be taken seriously by Indian MNCs, due to their power and capability to make a change. Usually, such companies have vast experience in running projects and finances, thus can be of great help to an NGO in India working for the betterment of the country. The ideal scenario would be when such non-governmental institutions enter into a tie-up with big MNCs. Thus both can benefit from each other’s strengths.
