Skin care is not just about beautification and cosmetic enhancement. Taking care of your skin can improve your overall health and make you feel a lot better about yourself, no matter who you are. The skin is the body's largest organ, and neglecting it can be downright dangerous. Here are a few quick tips to help you treat your skin better:

To keep your skin clean, keep your makeup clean. Make sure to swap out old makeup for newer ones. Throw away old sponges used for application and keep clean ones on hand should they be needed. Be wary of makeup like mascara that can collect a lot of bacteria if not swapped out every few months.

Be very gentle to the area around your eyes, especially when removing eye makeup. The skin of the area eye is extremely thin and fragile, and the first area to show signs of aging. A folded facial tissue soaked with a few drops of baby oil, unfolded, and pressed for several seconds on each closed eyelid, followed by slowly wiping outward from the inner corner of the eye, will remove eye makeup safely, gently, and cheaply.

Cut down on fatty and sugary foods. Fried foods and foods high in sugar may taste good, but they wreak havoc on your face. Eliminate them from your diet as much as possible, and that includes soft drinks. Replace those junk foods with healthier alternatives (for example, eat yogurt instead of ice cream) and watch your skin improve.

Try not to overdo it with long hot baths and showers. The steamy, warm environment strips your skin of essential oils. This causes unattractive, flaky, dry skin that will have a hard time holding an moisture. Try to use warm instead of hot water and try bathing for shorter periods of time.

Cream

You should apply a moisturizer to the skin after washing and toning. Moisturizers are lotions that lessen wrinkles, soften skin, and reduce dryness. Different skin types require different moisturizers. A person with oily skin should use a gel based moisturizer. A person with drier skin should use a cream or lotion based moisturizer.

If your current day cream or lotion does not contain ingredients to protect your skin from the sun, consider mixing in a lightweight sunscreen. Ideally, your facial products should offer SPF of at least 15. Seek out skincare with sun-loving ingredients like vobenzone, Helioplex, or micronized zinc. These ingredients offer broad-spectrum coverage without affecting the appearance of the skin's coloring.

If you want your skin to have a light golden glow, then you can mix in a small amount of tan lotion into your moisturizing cream, so that the lotion penetrates your skin. This has been shown to give a person's skin a beautiful healthy glow that is sexy and beautiful.

Be gentle. You don't need to scrub your skin with harsh cleansers for it to stay clean and healthy. Instead, use warm - not hot - water and a mild gentle cleanser to wash skin. Use a moisturizing shaving cream and sharp razor when shaving. Dry your skin gently by patting, rather than rubbing, with a towel.

To keep your skin looking healthy and smooth, be sure to shave carefully. A gel or cream applied before shaving, will ensure that the razor glides smoothly, rather than roughing up the skin. To avoid in-grown hairs, always shave in the direction that the hair is growing, not against it.

Even a little bit of skin care can go a long way. When you pay a little bit of attention to your skin's health, it will reward you many times over. Besides improving your overall health, taking care of your skin will keep you looking younger and healthier for years to come.
