The loss of a limb after an unfortunate incident is something that is an unimaginable prospect. However, for those who have to go through fate and live with the harsh reality, there needs to be something that they may be able to look forward to. This prospect of happiness may also be brought to them in the form of a prosthetic knee. The knee may be able to ensure that the movement and mobility of the victim is not restricted, giving him or her, the chance to be able to lead a normal and happy life. This is possible in the event of having lost half a leg. It is important that when prosthetics are used, they are safe and reliable in quality. If the artificial limbs do not promise safety, it may be difficult for users to be able to trust the mechanism. There are a number of things that need to be checked for, before one opts for the below knee prosthesis. If the important points and factors are covered, the limb may be said to be satisfactory and efficient for use. This sort of a check is extremely important as the normalcy of the users life depends on the limb or limbs.

The most important thing that needs to be checked while bringing the artificial limb in use is the fit of the limb. It is essential that the prosthetic has a good grip on the existing part of the limb and that it does not move from its place while in use, such an incident may not only cause pain but also pose the risk of hurting the user. It is also important that the prosthetic being used is able to mimic the natural functions of the mechanism that existed before the knee amputation. The ability to absorb shock and give a natural respite to the users while they walk is one of the most important functions of the prosthetics that are used below the knee. Apart from absorbing shock, there also needs to be sufficient amount of vacuum in the mechanism, so that the jerks caused by walking do not affect the user. It is also important that the height of the prosthetic is precise and perfect for the user. A small difference in prosthetics used after a below knee amputation, feels like a major difference, as it affects the ability to walk as well as the posture of the user. When all the essential factors of the prosthetics are in place it may be said that the prosthetic is safe for regular use and may be tried by those who need a new lease of life and need to live again.
