range mats

You may have been practicing yoga for years and have never found the right mat, or you may be new to it and looking to purchase your first one. A quick look at the market will show you that there are a huge range of mats to choose from. There is also a range of mats which are designed for similar style exercise such as Pilates; these mats should be avoided as they will not provide the support require. It will not help your yoga to spend more time worrying about your mat than whether your pose is correct. The following points will help you to choose the correct mat for your needs:

Cost

The price of mats can range from under $20 to $100 and, in many ways; you will be getting what you pay for. Having the right mat will make it easy to retain a pose, if it is too thin you will feel as though you are kneeling on the floor; too thick and you may struggle with balance. The cost also reflects the material being used, there are plenty which have been mass marketed and are made of PVC. These mats will not be environmentally friendly but they will be cheap. A more expensive mat, such as the ones in the Manduka range will be made of more environmentally friendly materials and will be designed to last a lifetime. Even if you are just starting in yoga it is worth paying a little more to get the best mat possible.

Online Reviews

It may seem strange to suggest a review site when performing a review of the options. However, sites such as educarelab.com can be exceptionally helpful to see what information is provided about specific mats. This is a valuable resource which should be looked at, in can often be the case that the least expensive mat is not practical when performing yoga. These review sites can share the public opinion of each mat and help in your best yoga mats review; this will ensure you only need to purchase one mat.

Try It!

If you know anyone who already does yoga then it is always worth asking their opinion and asking if you can try their mat out. They may suggest the mat is perfect but what works for one will not necessarily be the best for you. Trying it before you buy will allow you to assess its suitability.

Non slip

A yoga mat must be non-slip and not all of them are. If they are not the mat may move and ruin your pose; probably just at the moment you perfect it. At the very least it will be frustrating to be fighting your mat whilst attempting to retain a pose; it will certainly not help to focus the mind. It should be noted that some yoga mats which are advertised as non-slip need to be worn in before they work effectively. If it is sweaty hands which are making you slip then a hand towel, on your mat will help.
