The world as we see and know it, may soon come to an end if we don’t pay enough attention to the growing rift between the ecology and nature on one hand and the lifestyles that we all lead. The sheer amount of pollution that is a scourge on the surface of the earth is enough to make several species go extinct. We can already see this happening. There is a sharp decline in green cover, a significant rise in global temperatures and widespread poverty and malnutrition. One wonders what the world has come to. But even in such a grim situation, thankfully there are some people who are wise enough to create seed banks for the future. This is because the future may have catastrophe in store for us.

The most obvious worry when we think about a possible turmoil due to lack of resources, say a severe drought or famine, is regarding food. That is because food is the most bare minimum that we all need to survive, apart from water. The most important kind of food is that we can grow. Unless nature is completely devastated, which is highly unlikely because of Mother Nature’s tremendous resilience displayed over the centuries, there should be enough resources to fall back to in case there is some kind of severe shortage of food.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that we must stick to organic food alone and not some genetically modified pseudo food. This is crucial, because using GMO will ultimately destroy the fertility of the soil. Besides, such crops will require huge inputs of fertilizers and pesticides, which will become either too costly during a crisis or will simply be impossible to manufacture due to lack of resources on the whole. That is why the concept of survival seed bank just seems so vital, however radical it may appear. Those opposed to such a view generally make the mistake of not realizing that just because something didn’t happen in the past, doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future.

In fact, chances are pretty strong there will be circumstances that will make us fall back on seed vault. This may become the last resort of all humanity. There are companies which are more like cooperatives who are helping citizens across America, both in the North and South, to build a seed bank and protect their future generations. It is not hard to come across such companies, as all of them have put up their own websites.

By using the principle of seeds heirloom, through the propagation of such seed banks, it will be possible to ensure that the human race doesn’t get wiped away! It may sound too drastic, but unfortunately it is not nearly as absurd as it may sound. The facts are staring at us in our faces.

Based on the principles of market economy or essentialist capitalism and on community culture and social responsibility, these companies are helping restore faith in our abilities to weather the storm. It is better to build up the seeds heirloom rather than waiting too long.
