Bramhall: A Comfortable, Healthy, and Intellectual Metropolis
Posted: Jun 04, 2015
Located in the metropolitan county of Stockport, Bramhall has a vibrant population of around 25,500. It has been listed as one of those places in Britain that are less lonely and also as a place where most of its residents enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Its name comes from the Anglo-Saxon period - during those days Brun and Hacun (Saxon freemen) held it as two different estates. It was divided in the year 1070 by William-the Conqueror amongst his followers.
The Railway station at Bramhall is on the main line that connects Manchester to London and passes through Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield. The trains from Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester stop at Bramhall Station every hour on weekdays - making it a great place to live for people who want to commute to work. The frequent number of trains also make it ideal for couples or families who want to enjoy a day out exploring the UK too.
There are a good number of cafes, restaurants, clothes shops, bars, charity shops, beauty salons, churches, hairdressers and also a library located in Bramhall Village. Bramhall also has many primary schools (such as: Ladybrook Primary School, Pownall Green, Nevill Road, Moss Hey and Queensgate), a high school (the local secondary school, Bramhall High School), and a recreation centre. It also boasts two golf courses (namely Bramall and Bramhall Park golf clubs) and three tennis centres (namely Bramhall Park, Bramhall Lane and Bramhall Queensgate). Bramhall Community News, which is its local newspaper, distributes around 22,000 copies a week and also covers Hazel Grove and Cheadle Hulme. The Stockport Times West Newspaper also distributes around 40,000 copies of the newspaper in the entire Bramhall, Gatley, Cheadle, and Cheadle Hulme area in a week.
The construction of four housing estates in Shops in Bramhall during the sixties and the start of seventies caused a rise in the housing stocks. These housing estates are New House Farm and Parkside in North Bramhall, Dairy-ground Estate in the Centre and Little Austrailia located in the south. Some noteworthy personalities who were born here are actor Peter Butterworth, actor Sacha Dhawan, actress Dame Wendy Hiller, and lead singer of ABC Martin Fry. The local MP, since 2005, has been Mark Hunter.
