As you know, social media is important for all brands. Fashion brands in particular are reaping the rewards with their presence on different social media platforms. Now it’s not enough to only have an e-commerce site. Consumers want to see behind brands and what inspires them. They prefer to shop brands that are transparent and enjoy communicating with shoppers. Communication is key with customer aquisition. For brands and designers both big and small, it’s getting harder and harder to acquire customers. With nearly everyone glued to their smartphones, it makes sense that brands would turn to social media to lift their presence.

One of the most popular social media platforms is Instagram. It should be of no surprise that Instagram is the fasted growing app and one of the most used from people ages 13-35. Literally everyone I know loves Instagram. Other platforms seems old and clunky where Instagram is modern, clean, and fresh. If a social media platform is easy to use and without a lot of complicated bells and whistles, it will take off fast. Users want fast and easy. They don’t want to log onto a social platform and be reminded who has a birthday, or to continue filling out their profile. They want instant and uncomplicated. Ease of use one reason users are leaving older social media platforms for Instagram. Brands that are not on Instagram are missing out.

Video is another way brands are presenting themselves and their products. Youtube plays a big role as an influential video portal. Tens of millions of viewers log onto Youtube daily to view anything from automobile mechanical videos to popular beauty tutorials. For beauty brands especially, Youtube is a big and important business. Many Youtube beauty gurus are famous and make a lot of money every year simply based on their videos. They are called vloggers. As blogging is about text, vlogging is the video equivalent. Many beauty bloggers make millions of dollars a year. How do they do it? The more eyeballs that watch a video, the more money they make. The money is made through advertisements which usually happen before a video begins. Fashion brands also have their own Youtube channels. Their illustrators and animators make videos to showcase a designers latest collections.

Youtube is a great platform to show the world a brands p products through video. If done correctly, video can be incredibly engaging. A well crafted video draws consumers in and makes them even more interested in your brand. When Instagram introduced 15 second videos, brands immediately took advantage. From fashion designs to accessories designers, Instagram blew up with cleverly crafted videos. And because they can be only 15 seconds, the viewer does not get bored. I follow several designers on Instagram and I always love when they upload a video. One of my favorite brands is PLIA Designs and they make luxurious collections of designer handbags. They are well know for creating cute Instagram videos. Also, they don’t post too much. It’s annoying when a brand is constantly updating their feed. That’s the roundup from the latest fashion news in technology.
