In the world of forensic science, an expert must be the one doing and facilitating these types of works because the results thereof highly matter in decisions involving court cases. It delves in various related fields such as forensic medicine which requires a forensic pathologist, forensic accounting which requires a forensic accountant, and computer forensics which requires an expert witness in computer forensics. Do you have what it takes to be a Computer Forensics Specialist? Note that the following requirements of such expert are not as easy as anyone would think it would be.

The first thing to consider is that computer forensics expert must be first exposed to an extensive knowledge with regards to the theories and applications relating to computer science. If you have earned this degree, then it is already a good start. In fact, this is the most fundamental requirement of every computer forensics expert. But then again, you have to take note that this alone would qualify you to become an expert on computer forensics. Just like a person who has earned a nursing degree does not qualify her to practice nursing profession in health care centers and hospitals. It should require more than that.

The second thing that should be required is that a Computer Forensics Expert must be able to practice some form of formal training especially in the field of computer forensics. It has to be taken into serious consideration that computer science ALONE should not only be a vital premise for him to qualify as an expert. In most cases, an expert in computer forensics may not have undergone formal training for this field. Unlike other forensic science experts, such as forensics accounting, a computer forensics expert should possess mastery in generally accepted accounting procedures first before they consider specializing in the legal field and become a forensic accountant. The same also holds true with other fields of forensic science.

However, to become a computer forensics expert, one should be adept and highly skillful in the field of computer science. And since in the field of computers and digital systems, it is not much of a regulated and systematized body of thought, becoming a computer forensics expert does not necessarily require passing a certain educational standard related to computers so as to earn himself the title of becoming a computer expert. In fact, most of the computer forensics expert in digital forensics are probably self taught or has learned a thing or two about computers on their training. In fact, most of them were actually law enforcers and have later developed the interest in digital science that is why they consider specializing in computer forensics.

Truly, being a computer forensics expert requires very strict qualifications. Don’t just claim to be one. You must be able to have the degree, training and the experience to prove it. On the same manner, let us also not allow ourselves to just hire any expert. Again, the abovementioned criteria must be strictly set and implemented.
