In most of the cases, Pityriasis Rosea is not extremely severe. The disease though is not at all terminal but causes serious discomfort. Even till date, the cause of the infection is not exactly found. In fact, the cause is never fixed and certain. The studies that have been conducted till date though suggest that the general cause of Pityriasis Rosea is a viral infection. At the inception, the infection is not that severe and begins with a sightly herald patch. This patch may or may not be severe. This is though, just the beginning of the infection. After a week of the patch and in some cases, a fortnight, there occur quite noticeable and visible patches that are either pink or red in color. The patches feel and seem flaky and they itch a lot. With the progression of time, these oval-shaped or oddly shaped rashes appear on most of the areas that includes torso and armpit majorly. Though Pityriasis Rosea is completely treatable, the skin infection leaves the patient quite uncomfortable as it is followed by extreme skin dryness and itching. The most pestering part of the infection is that the more you scratch the unsettling areas, the worse itching gets. Also, in extreme cases, Pityriasis Rosea infection is followed by fever, fatigue and headache.

Pityriasis Rosea though has a severe quandary and that is the fact that owing to slow developments and general symptoms, it is difficult to diagnose. Also, it has starking similarities to some diseases that includes lyme disease, ringworm, psoriasis and eczema. This makes the diagnose and treatment difficult. Therefore, visiting a good dermatologist becomes a necessity as owing to his or her experience, validating or denying the existence of the disease becomes easier. The symptoms that constitute and precede Pityriasis Rosea include appearance of asymmetrical circular and oval lesions that are accompanied with scaling. Also, the lesions are generally preceded by herald patches and sometimes. One should also check if there are any small vesicles at the center and any clinical or serological evidence of secondary syphilis. As far as the quantum of pain is concerned, Pityriasis Rosea doesn’t have any. Though the infection is not chronic, attentive treatment is necessary.

Consult a dermatologist and find effective medication. Over the counter medications work completely fine for the symptoms and the antihistamines are effective while treating the problem of itching. To heal the skin, use calamine lotions. Also, avoid fragrant soaps, clothes of wool, hot water and synthetic fabrics.
