With years passing, Syria has not found any betterment in the war situation. Medical aid is the desperate need in the country. Millions of people are injured and many face critical illnesses and severely troubling health issues. A brutal and violent attack has been unleashed on the country without discriminating between the combatants and the innocent civilians. The situation has not assured any protection to health workers and medical professionals willing to render their valuable assistance to support the relief activities in the country. The humanitarian support rendered today by the world community is so meagre not adequate to put an end to the alarming kind of death toll and the sufferings undergone by the people who are ailing due to illnesses and injuries.

The prolonged conflict situation in the country has completely shattered the health care system in Syria. There are continuous attacks on the medical facilities and the infrastructure is severely damaged. The medical supplies are not adequate and a large number of medical professionals and doctors have fled the country for want of safety and security. There is therefore an acute shortage of medical staff to attend to the health care needs of people. For instance, in the second largest city of Syria called Aleppo, there were 2,500 doctors earlier to the conflict among whom only about 100 remain today. The fates of the remaining were succumbed to fleeing, internal displacement, kidnaps and killings. Thus, the situation of the health care system is thoroughly unpromising today.

In several cases, the lives and safety of the health workers working for some dedicated voluntary organizations are at stake. Many staff members of these organizations have been killed, abducted or forced to give up their activities. The result is the closure of several health care centres opened up by these organizations in addition to those that have been already closed down due to lack of supplies and medical staff. The dire situation calls for the participation by the international community by increasing the support given especially to further the health care work in the country. When compared to the other kind of humanitarian services you can render, medical aid support to Syria shall be the most satisfying kind of one since the people are highly deserving and are affected beyond compare.

Some voluntary organizations are running medical camps in the affected zones that are managed by the Syrian medical staff. Syria today needs a massive scale medical relief aid so desperately. While a number of voluntary service organizations are prepared to do their bit, your help can only encourage them and give them the needful to further their initiatives in the lines of offering medical relief. Since the needs of the medical relief arena is so much, overwhelming participation by the world community will only suffice the existing requirements.
