Are you a person suffering from cough that won’t go? Do you difficulty in breathing that does not allow indulging in your favorite sports activity? In spite of the innumerable amount of cough syrups and continued treatment you still suffer from coughing syndrome. Cough that wouldn’t stop until you are broken down completely! Then, there are high chances that you are mostly suffering from Non Cystic Fibrosis Bronchiectasis.
The air that we breathe in passes through several tubes before reaching lungs. In the case of patients with bronchiectasis the tubes are enlarged and make this area prone to infection. The infection then leads to inflammation and the destruction of the surrounding lung tissues.
Cystic Fibrosis an inherited disease is considered to be the most common cause for getting infected to bronchiectasis. Patients who are infected with Non Cystic Fibrosis Bronchiectasis also show such symptoms although the underlying symptoms and cause can never be found. Infection on lungs, structural problems in lung or any other kind of underlying disease can cause NCFB in a person. The only treatment that is available to treat NCFB is by doing a high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scan.
People who are infected with NCFB has cough with usually large amount of sputum or blood or bloody sputum at times. Patients are usually prone to having problems while breathing, and might get tired easily making it difficult to continue even their usual chores. The first treatment to be done on a patient infected with NCFB is to reduce exacerbations. Exacerbations are the result of bacterial infection on lungs that cause the lungs to flare. These flares will result in making a patient extremely weak and might require regular hospitalization and continuous intake of antibiotics.
There are only limited treatments available for NCFB. Surgeries and lung transplantation are the only possible treatment available as of now. Long term antibacterial treatments are available that could provide a relief to exacerbations, thus helping to increase the quality of life in patients. Exercises or respiratory muscle training are also seen as a solution to treating NCFB but none of these guarantee that they would cure an infection completely.
