The fact that a disease like AIDS is claiming more lives each day and is one of the greatest global problems; but not everybody has a clear idea about what it entails is very alarming. To some people it is a disease, the wide impact of which is a myth spread and nurtured by media. Is that it? NO.

This is the reason why everyday governments, health organizations and non-profit welfare organizations are joining hands to conjure new ideas, new scenarios and new events to promote the truth behind the beast of a disease that is AIDS.

One of the successful ways to raise awareness about a persistent life threatening disease like AIDS is through the distribution of symbolic awareness products. The monetary value of such products might be minimal but the societal impact of such a step can be immense.

"AIDS awareness products", sounds a little like a marketing propaganda, doesn’t it? Well, that’s because it is and an ingenious one at that. This is one of the recent approaches towards spreading awareness about the deadly disease that is AIDS and it has shown an impressive success rate.

There is no hard and fast rule as to what constitutes a suitable awareness product. The only guiding factors are:

  • They should be economical so that anyone can get a pair or two and aid in this honorable endeavor. They should be readily available. A positive outcome is what they should ideally portray. An easy to carry portable product is always preferred over a heavy duty one.

It can be as small as an AIDS red ribbon or as big as a t-shirt with a well thought out bold yet witty AIDS awareness quote or slogan printed on it. The focus is on spreading a little more awareness each day.

These items are generally worn or displayed on World AIDS day celebrated each year on the 1st of December. This day became the first ever global health day and is being observed since 1988.

Why endorse such products?

  • Because AIDS is a reality and the earlier people realize it, the better.
  • It has no cure yet. But, prevention is better than cure and spreading knowledge is the best way to encourage the preventative approach. AIDS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion or societal status.
  • It is not inevitable. There is still hope. People are suffering and its time we showed them some respect and support.

Endorsing such products may not earn you any money but they will do a world of good to the society you live in. The world needs more good Samaritans now than ever before and it is only humane that every individual serves his part even if it involves carrying a small reminder of the global pandemic-AIDS.
