Walla Walla Valley is located in the Washington State and extends a little into Oregon. This area has the second highest concentration of vineyards and wineries in the State. Most of the wineries are small, family-run ones. But don’t underestimate them as they have reputation for producing world class wine. The Walla Walla Valley has also been nicknamed as the "Next Nappa Valley" as the world’s finest winemakers are gathering here to produce wine. This is thanks to the suitable climatic conditions and culture of the place. Even without considering its quick growth, the Walla Walla Valley today stands in the list of the nation’s finest wine regions.

Specialty of Walla Walla Valley’s Soil

The soil of this region is consists mainly of loess. These are small soil particles whose size is in the order of that of silt and which has been carried by the wind. This fine textured soil provides for a good drainage system of the vines.

The area is well irrigated to provide for the water requirements of the vineyards. The average annual rainfall is 31.8cm which is very low when compared to the requirement of the vines. Hence, the Walla Walla Valley depends on irrigation to fulfil its water needs.

Hot days and cool nights is the characteristic climate of this region. The region experiences sudden changes of temperature, thanks to the cold mountain breezes blowing down from the Blue Mountains.

Wineries

The Walla Walla Valley consists of over 120 wineries and 1800 acres of vineyard covered lands. Most of these wineries have tasting rooms and wine bars. There are several wine festivals that are hosted annually here. The Walla Walla wineries map can be found on walla walla wineries map

Balboa Winery

The name itself gives me a slight blood rush. The winery not only serves good wine but also is a great place to plan a family retreat. You can entertain yourself by playing with the dogs there or with a little golfing or just plain old walk through the farms. The place is also filled with beautiful artwork. The hospitality of owners, Tom and Amy Glaze makes you feel at home.

Mace Mead Works

This place gives off the old-school saloon aura through its thematic design. As the name suggests, the winery not only offers wines but also has a bar serving mead cocktails. Mead is prepared by fermenting honey and water. The design and style of this place differs from most of the other wineries around this area and helps this stand out of the lot.

El Corazon

This might be the only winery with tasting rooms that remind you of your frat house. Equipped with ping pong and foosball tables, the place becomes a party house with a little good music playing in the back ground. The hospitality of the winemaker Spencer Sieverts and his staff makes place very welcoming to every last customer who happens to drop by. For more information please click here.
