It may not be any overstatement to term constipation as the mother of many physical problems. Difficulty in passing stools is the particular condition wherein one is unable to dispose of the wasteful substances from the body. Such horrible conditions last even for few days that put the sufferers to great inconvenience. They take different types of medicines including certain allopathic ones that sometimes result in adverse effects upon the users rather than making any improvements.

Ayurvedic medicines for constipation are suggested for the constipation patients without putting any side effects:

a. Belleric Myroblan – Known as Terminalia bellerica; this wonderful herb acts like a powerful herbal medicine. Taking half ripe fruit of this herb in regular manners gives excellent results in curing chronic constipation.

b. Bael Fruit – Its other name is Aegle marmelos. Being laxative in nature, this herbal fruit may be taken in the ripe form. Continuous use of this wonderful fruit for about three months gives excellent results. The juice extracted from bael fruit and taken after frequent intervals also gives quick relief. It helps in dissolving the wastes in the intestines and flushing them out from the body.

c. Chicory – Popular as Chichorium intybs, this herb is a natural laxative. Those suffering from serious constipation must take in regularly as it is one of the best herbal medicines for the disease.

d. Castor – Oil extracted from Castor, i.e. Ricinus communis acts like a strong purgative. No side effects have been reported with its even use. It can be used by patients of all ages and both sexes without worrying for the climatic changes.

e. Cassia (Crassia fistula) – Constipation can be treated well with the pulp of ripe fruit of this herb. Children and expectant ladies suffering from this disease are benefited in a big way.

f. Chebulic Myroblan – Mild laxative in nature; this useful herb works wonders in treating constipation. Known as Terminalia Chebula; its pulp gives good results when taken with rock salt. Cinnamon and cloves may be used for adding flavour when taken as decoction for treatment of severe cases of constipation.

g. Isphagula (Plantago ovata) – Constipation patients are advised to try this herb. The mucus lining of the alimentary canal are soothed well with the seeds of this plant that should be taken after soaking in water. Wasteful substances are removed in even manners from the body in consistent manners with these seeds that act as strong herbal medicines.

h. Licorice – Laxative in nature, its powder may be taken with jaggery and water for getting quick relief.

i. Rhubarb – Contents of tannins in this herb help in freeing the body from the wasteful substances. It is useful for mild constipation.

Constipated patients are advised to take sufficient water after frequent intervals. Adequate amounts of ghee or oil must be included in the food for saving it from dryness. Fresh fruits, leafy green vegetables and salads are good. Junk foods, tobacco and alcohol must be kept at bay. Simple exercises, yoga and long walks are much helpful for them.
