A vacation to New York City would not be complete without a visit to the Statue of Liberty. Cruise ships depart throughout the day to provide tourists and locals the chance and the convenience to visit this monument. Reserve your spot by purchasing tickets for cruises to the Statue of Liberty through Statue Cruises, the official provider of tickets and tours to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in New York Harbor.

Practical Advice

There are defined seasons in New York City, so please dress appropriately. Summers can go up to the high 90’s and have high humidity and winters are cold and definitely chilly. It is best to dress in layers since weather conditions can suddenly change while visiting the Statue of Liberty National Monument or Ellis Island. Comfortable shoes are also very important since a lot of walking is involved. There are food and beverages provided through concession stands on the boats, on the Statue of Liberty, and on Ellis Island. There are also opportunities to shop at gift stores to find the perfect souvenir. Lockers are provided for a fee at the Statue of Liberty to store backpacks, food, and drink since these items are not allowed in the Pedestal and Crown areas. There are special exhibits at the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island, as well as tours and programs so that you can experience both more fully. The park rangers can provide you with more information at the time of your visit. Allow enough time to travel by car or public transportation to reach Statue Cruises in either Battery Park in New York City or Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey.

To make reservations, each customer is allowed a maximum of four tickets and can only make one reservation within a six-month period. To reach the Crown area, you must have valid identification. Tickets are non-transferable and children must be at least four feet tall to climb the crown without any assistance. Pick up your tickets at the Will Call window and keep in mind that your tickets are only good for the date and time printed. The time when you can enter the Boarding Queue is also printed on the ticket. The fee for crown access is $3.00 per ticket and no more than 12-15 people are allowed to visit the crown at one time. On the average, six groups can ascend the crown per hour. The crown climb is strenuous since you will be climbing a 27-story building, or 393 steps. You will not be allowed to climb if you cannot do this unassisted. Also, there is no elevator access from the pedestal to the crown, meaning from the statue’s feet to the statue’s head. National Park Service Rangers are present at all times in case of an emergency.

Statue Cruises can take you to the Statue of Liberty every day of the year except for Christmas Day, December 25th. You can choose to see the Statue of Liberty National Monument on its own, pair it with a visit to Ellis Island, or make it part of an attraction package where you can experience as much of New York City as possible. Group trips, such as for schools, community organizations, or tour and travel operators, are also a possibility, as long as special arrangements have been made in advance.
