Every student faces a common question. What career do I take up? What course do I opt for? In the olden days, we used to rely on snippets of information that we would hear from people or opt for a conventional choice or depend on the decision that our parents would take. The awareness regarding different streams and sub-streams was much lower at that time.

However, today there is a dearth of knowledge regarding the various career options. You may feel that you are spoilt for choice and cannot make a career decision. Or, you may be confused and uninformed and need someone to guide about the options that are open to you.

This is where a Career Counseling plays a pivotal role. So what does Career Counseling involve? Basically, Career Counseling entails the process by which you form a career path which is tailor-made according to your interests, aptitudes, needs and personality. This is usually done by using psychometric tests for measuring individual aptitudes and personality traits. Every individual is unique, with different areas of strengths and areas of development. A Career Counselor will guide you through process of Career selection. A Career Counselor is qualified Consultant / Counseling Psychologist.

  • Career Counseling starts with understanding individual career choices, areas of strength as well as areas of improvement. Once that has been done, career route is charted out. This would include that probable courses or streams that the individual can pursue, the necessary entrance exams (if applicable) and the cutoffs for the same, the eligibility for specific courses. Additionally, a Career Counselor will provide information about the courses as well as clarify doubts and confusion regarding the course profile; e.g.: understanding the difference between Visual Communication and Mass Communication- the content and duration, etc. The end result being, that a Career Counselor will help you in organizing your thoughts and ideas and boost your morale.
