Depression and women are long in association. In the U.S. alone about 15 million people suffer from depression majority of which consist of women. Depression is a much common problem in women and clinical findings suggest that women are twice more likely to suffer from the condition as compared to man. There are various reasons why women suffer from depression and here we are going to find the causes and effective home remedies to deal with the condition.

Symptoms of Depression

First step in the treatment of depression is to accept that you are suffering from it. Depression is a persuasive condition which can turn serious and result into episodes of sadness, worthlessness, hopelessness and helplessness. You need to keep a check on some of the major symptoms of the condition. They can be mild to serious depending on the patients.

The major symptoms of depression are:

The causes

There are many theories put forward by the researchers on why women are more likely to suffer from depression. Some results suggest that great level of hormonal changes in body of women after puberty is one reason for depression. Other conditions like hormone fluctuations, premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder are also known to cause depression in women.

Not having a fulfilling life is also a major reason behind depression in women. Feelings like pessimism, guilt, helplessness and hopelessness crop up when someone doesn’t have a life with goals and interests. Experts have found that poor lifestyle can be a big contributing factor to depression.

Home Remedies to treat depression

As depression is more of a mental problem than a physical disease, you can deal with the problem making some important changes in your lifestyle. Here is what you can do.

Make a Routine

Have a routine for your life as it can easily melt away the depression from your life. Allow lesser time for your brain to wander and busy yourself in activities. Setting goals and planning a strategy to achieve them is best way to start.

Exercise

Exercising makes you physically active and there is release of endorphins in the body which are feel-good hormones. Also by exercising you are rewiring your brain in a positive manner.

Eat Healthy

There is no better way to deal with depression. Keep a watch on what you eat as there is no magic food that can fight depression. Eat a diet rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and folic acid.

Sleep Well

It is important that you relax your body. Sleep at least for 8 hours a day and avoid sleeping too little or too much.
