Posted: Jul 16, 2015
More money with people means more purchasing power and nowadays even first time car buyers can afford to buy sedans. However the compact sedan segment is growing fast and the options here are mind boggling. Any potential buyer is sure to get confused in the course of selecting the best one. Here is a comparative review of two great cars in the compact sedan segment – the Amaze from Hondas and Swift Dzire from the Maruti stables.
Swift Dzire is actually a sedan version of the original Swift hatchback. This compact sedan made its debut in March 2008 and was later was subject to many up gradations. The styling may be rather bland for some but it does pretty well on the comfort front. The petrol version is a 1.2litre K series 1198 cc engine with VVT and the diesel version is a 1.3litre DDiS 1248 cc engine with a combination of a turbocharger and intercooler. Both the engines are powered with a five speed manual transmission or a four speed automatic gear box. The petrol engine gives an average mileage of 18 kmpl whereas the diesel engine has a mileage of 26.59 kmpl. Its rally based suspension ensures a smooth ride. Swift Dzire is priced at Rs 4.8-7.3 lakhs and it has been a good seller for Maruti since many years now.
Honda Amaze or Brio Amaze is a sedan version of the hatch Brio. This amazing sedan was launched in 2013 as the first diesel sedan in the country and this made it an instant hit then. Despite falling in the sub four metre category, Amaze has an amazing cabin and luggage space. The petrol unit is powered by a refined 1.2litre i-VTEC mill producing 88 PS power and 109 Nm of torque, with the ARAI fuel economy of 18 kmpl. There is a 5 speed automatic petrol variant also. Amaze diesel sedan is powered by a turbocharged 1.5litre i-DTEC oil burner that produces 100 PS power and 200 Nm of torque. The diesel versions yield mileage of 25.8 kmpl, which is a commendable figure. Honda Amaze is priced at Rs 4.9-7.60 lakhs and it has all the ingredients to be the best seller in the market.
Although Dzire sedan scores low on looks, performance and drivability, other positive factors like lower price, lower maintenance cost, best after sales service, better resale value, cheap spare parts and good fuel efficiency make the Dzire sedan more appealing to the common people. And its popularity is quite evident from its sales figures. But those who count more on looks, equipment, and drivability,in additionto the premium cost should go for the Amaze sedan.
