Posted: Jul 17, 2015
Autumn will come soon which means that it's time for cleaning. You should get rid of all the soil and sand that have been built up in your carpets. Deep cleaning will be a must. Correspondingly, the whole house will look refreshed, especially if you haven't cleaned it for a while. Experts advise carpets and rugs be cleaned at least once a year. So the end of the summer is the best time to focus on that job because it will require a lot of elbow grease.
What You Need- Salt
- Vinegar
- Borax
- A vacuum and a carpet steam cleaner
Having a good plan will make your carpet cleaning session less time-consuming and not so exhausting. Therefore, follow these basic steps to ease your task.
- Vacuum - If you do it like you have never done it before (with big diligence), all the dust, particles and hair will come off. Try vacuuming in 3 different directions. Don't push yourself, take your time.
- Make a paste mixing 1/4 cup salt, 1/4 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup borax. Apply it to the stains and let it sit for several hours. Later, when carpets are dried completely, vacuum the paste away.
3. Turn on the steam cleaner. Probably, you're wondering why you should use it. Most people dry clean their carpets, but that way unwanted residues are left. This makes the method not acceptable for a lot of families. Instead, carpet cleaning specialists recommend using steam cleaning. But if hiring professionals is over your budget, then renting a steam machine is the alternative option. However, keep in mind you'll not achieve the same results as an experienced cleaner would.
4. Carpet shampoo is not necessary. Hot water has the necessary power to do everything by itself. It can get most of the dirt out of your carpet. The key point here is for the water to be very hot. Researches indicate that steam cleaners kill almost all germs and bacteria without any remains. Actually, only this cleaning method is classified as deep cleaning.
- If your carpet is highly soiled. You can add 1 cup white vinegar to 2.5 gallons of water for the purpose of a very deep cleaning.
- Using the machine is very easy - just depress the button and release the hot water. Let it sit a few seconds, then go over it three or four times in order for the carpet to dry as much as possible.
- Just once is not enough, so steam clean the carpet one more time.
- Wait for the carpets to dry completely. After that, you can place the furniture back. A clever hint is to put aluminium foil pads under the legs of the furniture. That way you'll avoid any stain bleeding onto your wet carpet. Let them fully dry, so when you walk on them you'll not stain them again.
- The final step is to dispose of the water from the machine.
To sum, carpet cleaning is not something as tedious as many people think. It can be done very easily knowing the right steps and having the right equipment. It's in your hands to make your life easier.
