Tips on Properly Stretch-Wrapping a Pallet with Stretch Wrap Film
Posted: Jul 20, 2015
Companies that need to deliver large items to their customers rely on pallets to ensure that their packages will not be damaged during the long journey. Usually, aside from pallets, packages are given additional security by being wrapped with stretch wrap film. Some, however, might be wrapping pallets the wrong way, compromising the safety of the packages meant to be delivered to their respective customers.
There’s a certain art in stretch-wrapping packages and objects to a pallet. To wrap these properly on pallets, here are some effective and time-saving tips you can keep in mind.
Choosing the Right Pallet
The pallet will serve as the base for all your packages, and finding the right one would ensure that your boxes will reach their destinations without any damage. In choosing the right pallet for your needs, just remember to opt for one that’s large and sturdy enough to hold all your packages without the fear of tearing the stretch wrap.
Attaching the Stretch Wrap
Once you have your pallet, take your roll of stretch wrap film and peel out a yard. Afterwards, squeeze about eight inches of both ends into loose rope shapes, and then thread these through and around a corner of the pallet. Begin wrapping at the base of the pallet; make sure that it’s in the same direction as when you made the fold, and that the base has been wrapped enough times so that the plastic will not slip off.
Securing the Goods
The entire pallet should move as one unit without wobbling. To achieve this, you first have to ensure that the bottom boxes will be "married" with the pallet, and continue wrapping until the next layer has been joined firmly to the first.
Once you’ve reached the top of the pallet, you have the choice of either ending your wrapping there or wrapping back down. To know what you should do between the two, you can try testing the whole pallet by pushing the upper boxes and see if the fit is tight or loose.
