Engineering is a broad discipline of study and there arises the continuous need for different devices or parts for completing a process across different fields of engineering. Couplings are one such device that is required for connecting two shafts mostly for the transmission of power. Couplings help in transmitting the power from the driving shaft to the shaft that is being driven without changing the speed of the shaft. There are different types of couplings in use for different purposes across various sectors. Few types of Couplings are mentioned below.

Types of Couplings

  1. Sleeve Coupling: Sleeve Couplings are one of the simplest types of Couplings in use. It basically consists of a metal sleeve made out of steel or cast iron at the ends of the shaft that are to be connected. The sleeves in a Sleeve Coupling are connected by using keys. It also consists of a hollow pipe which is connected over two or more ends of the shafts and it is mostly used for transferring power from one shaft to another.
  2. Flange Coupling: It is used for connecting two coaxial shafts and the two Couplings are usually made out of cast iron. The flanges are connected separately with the help of keys to the driving shaft and the driven shaft. Both the flanges are almost identical, but the only difference is that one of them has a circular projection while another has a corresponding recess for making a register. When the two flanges are connected together, they fit into each other properly as the projection fits into the recess. The power is transmitted between the Flange Coupling when friction occurs between them.
  3. Clamp Coupling: It basically consists of two half cylinders that are placed at the ends of the shafts that are to be connected. A bolt is used for connecting such Couplings. It is not necessary to change the position of a shaft in-order to assemble or disassemble the couplings.
  4. Gear Coupling: This type of couplings is used for transmitting torque between two shafts that are not in a straight line. They are mostly used with flexible joints in a shaft. A third shaft is used for connecting the two joints which is called as the spindle.

Different types of Couplings are provided by the Geared Suppliers in India. But the Flexible Geared Couplings Manufactured and Supplied by the Geared Coupling Manufacturers in Haryana India are known for their quality in the market.
