If you are considering a Honda Civic hatch for sale, Perth drivers are likely to already be aware of the development of the fast and powerful Type R variant. This version of the 2015 Honda Civic hatch has recently taken the title of the fastest front wheel drive hatch at the Nurburgring. However, the company are confident that should another vehicle show promise of stealing this title, there is still room for improvement to boost the power and speed of this hot hatch.

According to Civic Type R project leader, Hisayuki Yagi, the engineering and design team had a single goal of being the fastest model front drive hatch around the Nurburgring. Yagi is confident that should another contender be developed by a rival manufacturer in the future, the Japanese auto giant intends to retain the crown. Yagi has said that if another model takes the Civic Type R record "we will take it back".

This confidence is apparently due to the engineering team’s ability to take the Type R "right to the very edge". Yagi is confident that there is room to generate additional power from the Type R engine and the team could also strip away more weight from the model.

The record lap time was set using a prototype vehicle, which featured the same suspension, tyres and engine used in the production team. This allowed the Honda team to clock up a lap record of 7:50:63 at Nurburgring in Nordschleife. The major modification made to the prototype appears to be removing the air conditioning module to provide compensation for the weight of the roll cage installed into the vehicle. It was reported that the roll cage had no effect on the rigidity of the car, since it was mounted using rubber blocks. This means that the new type R Honda Civic hatch for sale, Perth drivers can assess could still deliver these impressive speeds. While it is not recommended to attempt a high speed test on our Australian roads, it is reassuring that this hatch can still offer great performance and power when it is needed to get you out of a tight spot.

The production model Type R features a four cylinder turbocharged 2.0 litre engine. This delivers 231 kW power and 400 Nm, redlining at 7,000 rpm. This impressive powerhouse is paired with a manual six speed transmission, complemented by a torque steer reducing steering knuckle and limited slip differential. Honda has claimed that this impressive combination allows the Type R to hit a zero to 100 kilometres per hour time of just 5.7 seconds, with top speeds of 270 kilometres per hour.

With regards to the new Type R Honda Civic hatch for sale, Perth enthusiasts will need to await further official details. The specification, timing and pricing are still awaiting an official announcement. However, it is anticipated that it is due to arrive in showrooms early next year.
