The development of nail fungus is typically initiatedby an injury to the skin surrounding the nail. Whether it’s a minor tear of the skin or a deep cut, chances are if you have an issue with nail fungus, this is how you’ve acquired it.

With such a wide variety of treatment options out there, it’s difficult to choose the right one. Factors such as side effects and cost can play a big role in our decision making. We’re here to make that decision easier for you. With laser nail fungus removal treatments, the side effects are minimal, and results are guaranteed at Canada MedLaser.

The science behind laser nail fungus removal is very simple; our Medical Skin Care Therapists use two technologies, combined in the same treatment (IPL and DPC) to pulse the laser light directly onto the nail. The light then penetrates through the nail, and is emitted onto the nail bed, which is where the fungal infection is originally bred. With each treatment, the bacteria are slowly "cooked", until the infection finally disappears. The number of treatments needed varies with each patient depending on the severity of the infection, and other factors, however, on average, patients need anywhere from three to ten sessions.

At Canada MedLaser, we’ve experienced many incidents where patients are unsure about how long they’ve had the infection. The truth is nail fungus can start off very subtle, giving little visible signs to detect. For many, it creeps up over the years, until the problem turns unsightly and even painful, causing ingrown nails. If you feel you are starting to get visible signs of a nail fungal infection, here are a few signs to look for:

  • White discoloration of the nail, often starting on the side of the nail
  • Thickening of the nail – this is developed due to moisture. Bacteria breeds in favored conditions. In this case, it breeds in damp conditions
  • Irregular nail growth
  • Buildup of debris under the nail. It is important not to clean too often under the nail, as nail fungus causes the nail to separate from the skin, allowing for more debris buildup
  • Brittle or broken nails
  • Lifting of the nail off the nail bed

Many people ask us if our laser nail fungus removal treatments are able to cure the painful curse of ingrown nails. The answer is, yes. Any side effect that occurs from the fungal infection to the nail is curable using our patented DPC (Dynamic Pulse Control) and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) combination of technologies. During the treatment process, most patients notice that the nail clarity occurs closer to the cuticle of the nail where the nail begins to look more "normal". It then grows out and transforms into a healthy looking nail.

Treatments are not painful, and take anywhere from 5-10 minutes. During your initial consultation, one of our Medical Skin Care Therapists will thoroughly explain to you the proper pre and post care process to ensure we achieve your desired results. These required steps are simple and easy to follow.
