The cost of labor involved in painting a house is pretty high. It is for this reason that people, in an attempt to reduce this cost of house painting, decide to do the job of painting the house themselves. These people arrange for all the materials needed for the job and then set about to do the painting work of their house on their own. They seek help from the internet and other information sources, from where they learn the tricks of giving their house the look of having been painted by a professional. In most of the cases, the house owners may not be able to do the job of painting in as good a manner as a professional would, but still they manage to do a pretty decent job and save a lot of money. However, once the entire painting work has been completed, many of these people find themselves stumbled, due to the lack of knowledge about the cleaning required to be done after the painting work is over.

Below are the some tips on cleaning after an interior painting work has been done:

Step 1

The first step once all the painting work is over is to remove the painter’s tape. This should be done at a moderate speed and the tape should be rolled over itself while pulling it back. This rolling of the tape over itself is necessary to ensure that you are not more than 12 inches away from the spot from where the tape is being pulled. This removal of the tape should be done while the paint is still a little wet. But, in case the paint has dried off completely, then a utility knife can be used for slowly pulling out the edges of the tape and then further pulling out the tape in the above manner.

Step 2

Since you like to paint your house on your own, therefore, you need to make sure that the tools used for the painting job are cleaned and stored properly, so that you can use them next time as well. These tools should be cleaned properly, as this would extend their life and for this simple soap and water should be used. In case, the paints used are oil based, then mineral spirits will have to be used for cleaning of the tools.

Step 3

For the cleaning of the bristles of the brush, a paint comb should be used. Once the same has been cleaned properly, all the water should be shaken off from the brush and the squeezed out of the roller.

Step 4

The clean brushes should be hung in order to allow all the water to drain out.

Step 5

All the protective covering placed on light fixtures, outlet covers and other spaces on the wall should be removed carefully and gently.

Step 6

The left over paint should be stored properly so that it does not dry off and get spoiled.

The cleaning cost is a major part of the house painting prices and if not done properly then it can end up making the entire price spent on house painting go down the drain, by making the room and house look ugly even after being freshly painted.
