Pigeons are the classic city pests. They are capable of adjusting in any surrounding of the urban setting and live alongside humans without much hassle. The urban lifestyle is particularly suitable to them since they do not have a natural predator, and the fact that urban areas are a cesspool of potential food in the form of garbage only makes them more comfortable.

These pigeons have the ability to roost and nest in the humanly unreachable parts like vents and in building crevices where they make a mess with their droppings, feathers and nesting waste.

Due to the large array of discomfort caused by them, many use this as a reason to eradicate the pigeons. If the reasons weren't enough, pigeons are also responsible for spreading respiratory diseases.

While the pigeons are a determined species of birds, living doggedly close to humans for the source of food they get from us. Along with determination, they also possess the ability to indiscriminately eliminate waste in a liquid, milky paste, and in large quantities all over the city.

If you are a victim of pigeon nuisances and want to know how to get rid of pigeons there are number of ways of achieving this.

The pigeon’s homing ability is the reason it is difficult to get rid of them. The species were used as messengers in the olden days for their ability to trace their way back and fro. Due to the same trait it is nearly impossible to just naturally get rid of them.

There are various tried and tested methods of pigeons eradication which range from unsuccessful attempts with the help of not-so-scary plastic owls and the use of old, unused CDs to the more successful ones like electric shocks, bird spikes and pigeon nets. The use bird spikes is an efficient tool as a bird repeller India and abroad.

The use of fake predators does the job with the same efficiency as fake the owl is. A pigeon will mostly like be as scared of an immobile owl as he will be of an immobile human. It will have no effect on them. Instead it is better to go for bird spikes which hinder the pigeon’s ability to nest and rest thus shooing them away from the area.

Scare tactics don’t usually work on pigeons for a long term, as the pigeons are bound to come back. So unless you can continuously afford to scare them, the fake predator will be of no use.

Pigeons typically go where the food is and if you stop feeding these birds a sharp decline in the nuisance can be experienced. Pigeons depend heavily on naturally available food source. If they are unsuccessful at doing so, they fall back on leftovers and get adjusted to it. If you have a pigeon problem, first eliminate any of the waste food sources around. You may not be able to control your neighbors action, but being prepared with proper sanitation on your part will drastically help you decrease the pigeon population.
