For example a network engineer can change packet rules on the fly to help manage traffic load, congestion control and create secure isolations. SDN allows network manager to use fewer legacy switches and routers due to the SDN cloud providing the same functionality.
Hyper-convergence (hyperconvergence) is a type of infrastructure system with a software-centric architecture that tightly integrates compute, storage, networking and virtualization resources and other technologies from scratch in a commodity hardware box. In a converged infrastructure, each of the components in the building block of cloud is a discrete component that can be used for its intended purpose -- the server can be separated and used as a server, just as the storage can be separated and used as functional storage. In a hyper-converged infrastructure, the technology is software defined, so that the technology is, in essence, all integrated and cannot be broken out into separate components. The advantage is fewer discreet components in the cloud and increased efficiencies such as differentiating storage locations to local and central unavailable in converged systems.
