Chikka TirupatiChikka TirupatiChikka Tirupati Temple History, Timings and Route information

Chikka Tirupati HistoryLegend date back to Dwapara Yuga, Agni Deva had severe stomach ache after accepting ghee for 100 years continuously. He then prayed Lord Brahma fo the remedy. Brahma suggested him to perform Kandava Dahanam as the forest has natural herbs. Agni stepped back as Indra’s friend Takshak was living in this forest with his family. He then approached Lord Krishna and Arjuna who offered him the protection. With their help, Agni raised himself high and burnt the forest. Indra tried hard to defend the snake Takshak but all his efforts went vain. Takshak who escaped with minor injuries cursed Agni to lose his divinity. Agni then prayed Lord Siva for the help. Lord Siva suggested him to perform penance for Lord Vishnu. Agni relieved from the curse and installed Lord Vishnu and named Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy.

This temple was built in Dravidian during the reign of Chola Kings in 11th Century A.D.

Annual Brahmotsavam will be celebrated in a grand during Sravana Masam. The uniqueness of this temple is that Lord Venkateswara’s Abhayahastham is pointing downward. Devotees used to offer hair which is similar to Tirumala Temple.
