How Do PSA Nitrogen Plants Work?
Due to the several benefits of producing on-site nitrogen gas, several industries are switching to nitrogen gas generators by discarding traditional cylinders supplied by vendors. PSA nitrogen gas plants ensure the supply of highly purified gas is constant and on-demand. Besides, nitrogen generators are highly cost-effective as they use raw materials like air. A nitrogen generator is a machine used for extracting nitrogen gas from the atmosphere. Most of the nitrogen generators operate on the principle of 'adsorption technology,' which depends on adsorption rates.
A PSA nitrogen generator works on the principle of 'Pressure Swing Adsorption' to generate a continuous flow of nitrogen gas out of compressed air. Carbon molecular sieve is filled inside two separate towers. Compressed air that is pretreated can penetrate the online tower's bottom and passes via the CMS. Trace gasses and oxygen will allow nitrogen to penetrate through. After a specified time, the automatic online tower will switch to a regenerative mode while discharging contaminants through the CMS. Carbon Molecular sieve is different from an ordinary activated carbon as the former has a narrow range for pore openings. As a result, this will allow the small oxygen molecules to pass through the pores next, as the nitrogen molecules can't pass through the CMS, separating the nitrogen molecules from oxygen. The large nitrogen molecules enter through the CMS and are released as the resultant gas.
Benefits of PSA nitrogen generators
The pre-filled N2 generator cylinders are highly inefficient compared to a generator that delivers a steady and reliable dry and clean nitrogen stream. These are the factors of nitrogen generators that make them superior.
- Long-term operational cost is low: You'll be able to cut out repetitive operating costs related to tank delivery, administration, and rent. This can add up to huge long-term savings. Such savings will increase for intensive N2 needs.
- No supply constraints: A
- Adjustable flow and purity rate: You can control the purity of N2 and its flow rate by adjusting as per your application's requirements.
- Portable and compact: A
- Low maintenance: You won't have to move the N2 generators around or reload them- it is a one-time installation device. However, you'll have to change its filter after five to ten years.
- Efficient: The drops release by the nitrogen generator can be used efficiently- you no longer have to worry about empty tanks.
