Do Not Delay Seeking Medical Advice
Some people are reluctant to visit the doctor. They are in sharp contrast to those who go to their GP at the slightest sign of a problem; even something that is no more than a bad cold. Clearly there are people who would rather not know they had a problem. They take the standpoint that they don’t feel well but the problem will go away. In some cases it does, but in others a delay can cause problems that could have been avoided.
No one should ignore the symptoms of a problem and take the stance that they would rather not know. There is little doubt that the National Health Service (NHS) is stretched, but it is there for a reason; to look after people who have made contributions throughout their lives in order to get help when they need it.
Simple Procedures
Ordinary people are not in a position to identify the reasons why they may have internal pain. At times, it will be indigestion perhaps, but it can also be something that is far more serious. There are fairly simple procedures these days that will help diagnose problems. A pain-free biopsy using a gastro scope will reveal whether there is a real problem such as cancer that needs urgent attention. This is not alarmist but it can happen.
Surgery
In most cases it will be something less serious, but it may be that the answer is still surgery. If the barrier between the oesophagus and the stomach can no longer perform its function, it will involve keyhole surgery to rectify the situation. Anti reflux surgery in London is a common procedure done on a daily basis. It will not involve the patient being hospitalised for more than a couple of days, and pain killing medication will ensure that after the patient goes home he or she will get pain relief over the next few days as they begin their recovery.
Recovery
No one recovers from surgery overnight, but keyhole surgery is not really invasive, certainly not to the extent that open surgery has been and still is. Everyone who has undergone surgery will be advised to take things easy and not do anything that can damage the work that has been done. After all, if surgery is to be effective, patients should rest as much as possible.
There is really little to fear if medical advice recommends surgery. The level of expertise that today’s surgeons bring to the table is such that everyone can feel confident that their problems will be solved quickly and in a relatively pain-free way. There is absolutely no reason to fear treatment, especially given that the consequences of not seeking advice are occasionally extremely serious; sometimes even life threatening.
