Dreams do not come true by accident. Continuous hard work and strategic planning can help your case. The Beauty industry is flourishing today. After the recession subsided, the industry has rebounded and analysts have predicted continued growth for the next five years or so. So if you are planning to start a business in this industry the chances of success are already hiked. But although the time is right, the increasing competition can pose a threat to your company.

But letting the fear of failure prevent you from reaching your destination might be the biggest mistake of your life. Every business owner has made his or her share of mistakes along the road to the top. No one said that the journey was going to be easy but the end result will always be worth the struggles. That said, there are certain mistakes that can be avoided if your attitude is right and you are ready to pay close attention to the business proceedings.

The mistakes:

  • Overpaying the technicians: Of course a handsome percentage cut will attract the right technicians to your salon/spa but overpaying right at the start is neither wise nor advised. You as an owner will start resenting the high pay you have to offer and the technicians will keep expecting more even if you are offering the best pay in the industry. But how will you attract a technician without a fat paycheck? By convincing him or her of your imminent success. If you are going to be the next big thing in the beauty industry then he or she is going to love being part of your team.
  • Screening your technicians wrong: If you are leaving loose ends in the hiring process or rushing through the process to hire more technicians, chances are you will miss out on some information and choose the wrong candidate for the job. Taking in technicians at their word is not a good idea.
  • Hiring over qualified technicians: Then again hiring people who know too much and have been to too many places might not be a good idea if you want your salon to concentrate on serving the clients right. The individuals with extensive experience tend to put their own creativity before client needs, which is not acceptable in the beauty business.
  • Hiring technicians without trying out their services: It is a good idea to give potential entrants an entrance test. Make them showcase their talent and prowess.
  • Making your business obscure: Getting a good spot can be expensive and tricky but to make sure that your business attracts the right clients, you have to choose the spot wisely. Setting your business up at a place that is away from the public eye is never going to be good for your business.
  • Not Placing a Yellow Pages ad: New clients may or may not show up after looking your business up in the yellow pages but old clients may need to have a look at the pages to learn your address and phone number anew. Depriving them of this will in turn deprive you of the opportunity to serve them.
  • Not installing
software for salons and spas: Now that is one huge mistake. Choosing to invest on such software might be a turning point in your business. Your business can go from just being okay to becoming a hot favorite with your clients. This is something that will attract new clients and old ones alike. Your profits will skyrocket within a short period of time. Choosing to ignore this add-on can have devastating effects on your business.

If you manage to overcome the urge of making these mistakes no one can stop your business from flourishing, your dreams from coming true.
