  • Symmetrical Balance: Formal spaces often require symmetrical balance, where the design is basically divided into two halves just like a mirror image.
  • Asymmetrical Balance: This is an informal style which usually balances the visual weight of colors, lines, textures and forms.
  • Radial Balance: There is a focal point involved in this balance, which indicates that every other element is being radiated from it.

Rhythm

Just like in music, even designs require the flow of a rhythm. This is because rhythm in a design can create contrast and repetition of patterns enhancing the visual appeal. It can be achieved with the help of similar shapes or colors placed at different intervals. The main purpose of rhythm is to make your eye move around the entire room. Hence, the best interior designers love to emphasize on the importance of rhythm.

Emphasis

The main idea of having an interior design is to ensure that the points of interest that are part of the room get the recognition that they deserve and that is the third golden principle- emphasis. For example, a fireplace is an amazing part that can be transformed with a beautiful design.

Variety

The name of this principle itself says it all. Any design without variety can appeal dull, boring or outdated. Therefore, to bring that magic back into the interiors it is essential to count on a wide range of varieties, which are specifically dedicated to particular parts of the room. The best interior designers believe that understand when and where to use variety is the key to successful designs.

Unity and Harmony

Every element of the design should blend together in a harmonious manner, achieving the true sense of unity. Without that belonging of one aspect of design with another, a complete composed look can never be derived. Put it simply, unity and harmony is nothing but the confluence of balance, rhythm, emphasis and variety.
