A tyre production process is a complex process involving several steps and processes starting from compounding and mixing, component preparation, tyre building, curing and finally inspection. Of all the processes, Tyre Curing is a very important process as this is where the tyres get their actual shape and tread pattern. Curing is done in the Curing Press where hot molds like huge irons shape up and vulcanize the tyres. These molds are then engraved with tread pattern and sidewall marking.

The tyres are cured at a temperature of about 100° C for about 12 to 25 minutes as per the size of the tyres. The time when the press swings open, the tyres are popped up from their molds. They are transferred from molds to the conveyor where they are taken for finishing and final inspection. The tyres are pressed firmly in the molds to prevent them getting opened by external pressure. This is why, the equipment for tyre curing is also known as Tyre Curing Press. The basic components of a typical Tyre Curing Press are listed below:

Components Of The Tyre Press Equipment:

  • Press frame having side shields.
  • Press table designed with insulating plates.
  • Toggle lever mechanism.
  • Mold height adjustment assembly with a mold supporting plate.
  • Main drive motor equipped with a brake.
  • Gearbox
  • Centralized lubrication system
  • Instrumentation and piping with diaphragm and solenoid valves.
  • FRL (filter regulator lubricator) unit
  • Flexible hoses
  • Pressure switch
  • PLC or timer for automatic cycle control
  • Control panels with push buttons and lamps.

Due the exceeding demand for quality tyres, most of the companies are now manufacturing Hydraulically Driven Curing Presses. In these presses, besides, curing, all the processes like loading /unloading of the tyres and changing of tyre molds can be automatically controlled. The hydraulically Driven Presses are divided into two types, which are:

  • Column-Type Hydraulically Driven Curing Press
  • Frame-Type Hydraulically Driven Curing Press

Another type of curing press is the Pit-less Tyre-Curing Press which is manufactured keeping in mind the requirement for pit less construction, shorter on-site installation period, higher area productivity and smaller footprint. The Pit-less Tyre-curing Press is known to reduce initial installation costs and improve the productivity.
