The demand for crossovers is on the high. The segment of compact SUVs in India took off with the launch of Ford's Eco s port and its success story has pushed many other manufacturers to jump into this segment.
American auto giant Ford has done the styling in such a way that this vehicle fits the bill of being a complete city car. Ford Eco sport has been the most anticipated product by Ford in India in recent times. It promised many firsts in its segment – sub-4m body, low price, and many more.
It has a trapezoidal grille with chrome slats on it. The headlights are streamlined with the radiator grille and stretch their way to the side panel. The lower section of the front bumper has a black plastic guard. The fog lamps are lodges in an angular pocket on the front bumper. The bonnet gets a subtle raise in profile as it flows to the front windshield. The flared wheel arches and alloy wheels, along with the plastic cladding, add to the ruggedness of this SUV. The spare wheel is bolted onto the tail door. Another plus point is the high ground clearance of 200 m of the vehicle, which is a boon in cities. The compact structure of the Eco Sport enables easy parking on the congested city roads.
Ford Eco Sport comes with the SYNC application support, which allows passengers to connect their cell phones to listen to music and make phone calls. The voice activated control system has an LCD screen and controls that alerts in case of emergencies. There are many cubby holes. The 365 L boot of the Eco Sport is huge. The other features include a music system with CD player, FM radio, USB port and Bluetooth connectivity and an automatic climate control system, electric wing mirrors, remote locking, cooled glove box, front fog lamps, reverse parking sensors and keyless entry.
The Eco Sport has both petrol and diesel engine options. There are two petrol variants of the Eco Sport, which are powered by 1.5-litre and 1.0-litre engines. The 1000 cc Eco Boost petrol engine generates 118 bhp of power and a maximum torque of 170 Nm. The 1500 cc engine churns out 108 bhp of power and 150 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is a 1500 cc one which generates 90 bhp of power with a 214 Nm torque. Standard mileage is 18.9 kmpl, 15.8 kmpl and 22.7 kmpl for the 1000 cc petrol, 1500 cc petrol and 1500 cc diesel versions, respectively. The Eco Sport comes in a total of 10 variants, three engine options and two transmissions to choose from.
The EcoSport is priced at Rs 5.69 lakhs to 9.16 lakhs.
