Mazda Manages All Time April Sales Record

Mazda has a strong reputation within the Australian marketplace, from the Mazda BT-50 Ute through to the small hatchback 2 and the family sized saloon 6. However, it was the release of the new Mazda CX-3 which has boosted sales and helped Mazda to hit an all time April sales record.

While the new Mazda 2, CX-5 and new Mazda BT-50 for sale have allowed the Japanese auto brand to establish impressive sales, it is the introduction of the new CX-3, which has tipped the sale scales into record highs. According to VFACTS sales figures for April 2015 the Mazda total was 8,068 units which beats the 2013 figure of 7,833, the previous highest ever April.

This total has allowed the year to date figures for cars, SUV models and BT-50 utilities to 36,348. This is also a record year to date figure, allowing Mazda to accumulate a 10.1 percent market share and a 4.5 percent increase in year on year sales.

Mazda is ranked as the second most popular manufacturer in Australia and has maintained its position as Australia’s leading full time importer. The figures confirm that a large proportion of the April sales was attributed to the new Mazda CX-3 with 1,396 units sold in its first full month. This impressive performance meant that the CX-3 outsold all of its rivals and earning the title of number one small SUV in the April results.

The Mazda3 continues to be one of the most popular cars in Australia, with April sales of 2,365 units and year to date sales of 13,424. The CX-5 also had a record month with sales numbers up 13 percent year on year, bettering the previous record set in 2014 by in excess of 300 units. This model is the leader in the medium SUV segment, averaging approximately 2,000 sales each month and tallying a year to date figure of 7,996 units sold.

The All New Mazda 2 has also maintained momentum totalling 926 units for April, topping the light segment with year to date sales of 4,975 units. As a Mazda2 sedan is due in August, Mazda is anticipating even greater numbers for the annual total.

The Mazda BT-50 has also contributed 897 to the sales total. The new Mazda BT-50 2015 models are maintaining steady sales in a very competitive segment. The Mazda6 has also maintained its rank as Australia’s top mid sized import priced under $60,000 with 415 units sold in 2015.

According to Martin Bender, managing director for Mazda Australia, the company are very pleased with their "outstanding start" to the year. This success is attributed to the upgrades and new models. Even with the increasing demand for SUV’s the upgrades to the CX-5 and the launch of the CX-5, sales have "exceeded all expectations". The CX-3 has sold 2,261 units in just over six weeks and this has highlighted that consumers are looking for more power and style in a small SUV. Benders believe that the company has now delivered "a greater range of choice".
