Just booked your flights and airport transfer service to Amsterdam? There is no better time to be in this beautiful city than in the autumn. As the leaves on the trees throughout the city turn brown and fall, it affords the spectacular views of the architecture and canals revealed in all their glory. The cooler weather is no deterrent for the inhabitants of the city, who are out and about making the most of their time before winter sets in.

All in all, it is the perfect time to go exploring, so once you've settled in from your airport transfer service, here are some of the things that you can do to make the most of your autumnal visit.

Go Exploring on Foot

Autumn is the ideal time explore on foot, especially just before the weather starts to get cold. As the trees turn to different shades of brown and gold, the colours bring out the best of the city, and you can discover so much hidden beauty simply by strolling alongside the canals.

Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht are two of the most beautiful canals to explore, but there are many more to discover as well – in fact, you could easily spend days just walking around them all.

The city's public parks are also perfect to explore at this time of year. Head over to the most famous of them all, Vondelpark, and enjoy the stunning autumnal colours of the city. You may pass by Vondelpark on your airport transfer service, but this is definitely one place that needs to be appreciated on foot.

Museum Night

One of the highlights of the autumnal calendar is Museum Night, which you should definitely make an effort to participate in if you are around at the right time. Museum Night is held every November, and sees over 50 museums opening in the evening to host film, art and music events. There is a huge range of options to choose from and it is a really special way to spend an evening.

Eat Seasonal Treats

Of course, the food is always great in Amsterdam, but autumn is the perfect time for stopping off in a canal-side restaurant and trying out the seasonal cuisine. One of the things that you should make sure you try is an 'oliebol', which is a deep fried dough ball with raisins. You will find these sold on the streets from October onwards.

Discover Amsterdam at Its Finest

Amsterdam is a truly beautiful city to visit at any time of the year, but autumn here is really special. Once you have settled in to your accommodation from your airport transfer service and you're ready to explore, keep the above suggestions in mind for your itinerary. Additionally, if you're there at the right time (a little later in the season), you may even get to see 'Sinterklaas', the Dutch Father Christmas, as he parades through the city.
