4 Top Day Trip Destinations from Prague

Posted: Aug 21, 2015
Direct Prague airport transfers to your hotel are a great way to get the travelling part o your holiday over and done with and get ready to explore this wonderful city. But if you have a little longer than a few days, the surrounding area also holds a wealth of attractions. Before you have to jump on the return Prague airport transfers, here’s a quick list of enriching destinations for a day trip you might like to enjoy.
Dresden
Dresden is just two hours away, across the German border. It is unique in that it bears the rich beauty of an artistic history alongside the scars of war that engulfed Europe in years past. Prior to World War II, Dresden was transformed by King August the Strong into a haven for painters, architects and musicians from all over Europe. The emphasis on art led to the creation of various works of wonder, from The Green Vault to The Old Masters Picture Gallery. However, the years of war left their mark in the city as well - from the Seven Years’ War in 1756 to the nearly total annihilation of Dresden in World War II. Each time, though, Dresden has risen from the ashes to become one of the most – if not the most respected – centres of art and culture in Europe.
Pilsen
Beer lovers will definitely want to go to the Pilsner Urquell Brewery, located in the city of Pilsen, just one hour away. (It is the birthplace of light lager beer, interestingly.) The highlight of the trip will be a visit to the brewery, of course, although the city itself is a hotspot for business, academics and culture in Western Czechoslovakia. The Old Town in Pilsen is a particularly interesting place to add to your itinerary, as is the St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral located within.
Karlovy Vary
Want to unwind after your flight after you arrive on your Prague airport transfers? If you fancy a visit to a relaxing spa resort, the spa town of Karlovy Vary will hit the spot. About two hours away, Karlovy Vary is otherwise known as Carlsbad, and completely epitomizes what a spa town should be. The town is nestled into a mountain range, with 13 main hot springs feeding around 300 other smaller springs down to the warm waters of the Tepla River. Make sure you taste the local spa wafers and candied plums as well!
Bohemia Crystal Factories
Crystal glass is one of Czechoslovakia’s most iconic exports, making a factory that produces it a particularly interesting site to visit. Many factories are open for tours, with some just 45 minutes away from the city, offering excursions for visitors to learn more about how this world-renowned glass is made. The glass itself goes as far back as the 13th century, although it gained prominence in the 16th century when it was distinguished for its beauty and colour. Take the time to visit the factories and you could even try your hand at blowing a vase on your own.
There is so much to see within this wonderful city and also in its immediate vicinity. These day trips are just a few examples; ask your Prague airport transfers driver for some other local suggestions.
