Oral Hygiene is also as important as the cleaning of the body. Poor oral hygiene leads to various dental problems as teeth plays a vital role in our digestion. They help us to grind and chew the food that we eat. If teeth will not get proper care and maintenance, then they will start decaying and affects the strength of the teeth and also necessitate the need to adopt artificial strength like fillings of the cavity or Teeth Crowns to support the affected teeth.

Teeth Crowns are most common restorative method used for severely damaged teeth. Crowns are basically cap-shaped that are place over the natural teeth to provide the protective layer and strength to the broken or damaged tooth. It mainly requires 2 to 5 sittings at the dentist depending upon the severity of the damage. In the first sitting only, he will determine the damage to the tooth through X-ray scans. After that, the cavity wall is filed and polished to remove traces of the decay. The healthy enamel may also be removed with the help of the dental drill to make the space for the Tooth Crown. If the remaining tooth structure can't support the crown, then the dentist can cover the cavity with filling.

Even if in the X-ray, the cavity is found deep to the nerves then the root canal will be done with the help of anesthetics so that patients can’t feel pain or sensitivity. After the drilling or filling, the impression of the tooth is taken and then sent to the dental lab to make cap for it. The crown is then customized to match the impression mold and the dentist’s specifications. When the cap is ready then the dentist will fix it to the damaged tooth of the patient in the next sittings.

Crowns are also available in various materials like porcelain, amalgamated metals, resin, ceramic etc. depending upon the extent of the decay to the teeth. From all these types of the teeth crowns, the porcelain is preferred over the metallic ones because they are as hard as the natural tooth and also more suitable for the front teeth as they are same as the teeth color which makes them invisible from the outside. The metallic crown requires less drilling of the healthy teeth but may be painful if not properly made according to the impression given or not fixed correctly.
