HP Unified Functional Testing(UFT)

UFT is an industry standard solution that supports a wide range of technologies – legacy Apps to Modern Apps, Mobile and Web Services.

It is designed for less technical users who are generally focused on business knowledge. It gives them a script based, easy to use option for test automation for integration with Business Process Testing.

UFT's broad integration with other solutions keep functional testing in perfect synchronization with other application delivery activities.

The users of UFT are generally Business Analysts, Quality Assurance Teams, Subject Matter Experts, Test Automation Engineer and the Tester.

For UFT, debugging is comparatively easier as the entire action and response process can be accessed by the tester. This tools give best results in areas of navigation, result validation and reports.

UFT helps with efficient Regression testing, however such tests are not as effective since the UFT scripting is similarly time consuming as manual testing. Along with it the execution time is also on the higher side as it pushes the entire load on CPU and RAM.

However it is very costly compared to other open source tools and subsequent add-ons result into cost spikes. Further the license is not one time; it is recurring which increases as it mature with every version of it for keeping up with industry standards. Avoiding further license renewal is also not an option as upgraded applications cannot be testes efficiently with non – upgraded testing tools.

HP Lean Functional Testing (HP LeanFT)

Lean Ft is a powerful, light weight developer oriented testing tool built specifically for continuous testing and continuous integration.

It is perfect for agile environment as it aims at early incorporation of testing in the development cycle. It provides the detailed flow of test execution and points out the exact reasons for the test failure

Lean FT is directly accessible from new releases of UFT or a standalone solution as it adopts and enhances the test models of Unified Functional Testing (UFT) which is more inclined towards Business Analysts and QA Analysts. It combines the best of vendor based and open source concepts by wrapping up Selenium with the key functionality of UFT.

It fits naturally into existing eco-systems and testing frame works like Visual Studio, Git, Cucumber, Eclipse, Jenkins, C3, Java plus powerful, flexible test authoring and IDE integration. So developers and testers can strengthen their scripts and improve their maintenance.

Most of the common Application Unit Testing (AUT) tools like Windows, SAP, Java, Mobiles,.Net are supported by LeanFT. As it fully integrates with and extends the popular IDEs and enables the coding in familiar scripting languages, the requirement for a new system does not exist and the same tools can be utilized.

The main users of Lean FT are Developers, test Automation Engineers and teams that have more developer centric focus. HP LeanFT is an enhancement of HP UFT. From the above facts, one can infer that the efficiency of the enhancement has surpassed the idea it is based on.
