Maui Secret Waterfall Hike

Go into the bamboo forest with this beautiful hike that takes three to five hours. It’s one mile to the waterfall, and although it isn’t a physically difficult hike, it does take balance, strength, and confidence to navigate the ropes and ladder. There are a couple of stops along the way where you get to play in a creek bed and rest, but you will have to climb a 12-foot rock slope to get to the bigger waterfall. There is assistance from a rope, but it does take confidence to get up that incline. Spend your day searching for waterfalls. You’ll have a chance to swim, and enjoy lunch before returning to the starting location.

Maui Ridge Hike

You may enjoy the Maui ridge hike, which takes you into the West Maui Forest. Although this hike is five miles round trip, it isn’t as difficult as the secret waterfall hike. You do need strength and stamina to complete this trek, but you will see great views of the valley as you do on all the Maui waterfall hikes. You can see for miles, provided it’s not a cloudy day. At the end of the trail, there is a picnic area where you can enjoy lunch before returning.

Maui Windmill Hike

The windmill hike is about five and one-half miles one way, which means you will need stamina to complete the trip. However, you get beautiful panoramic views of the West Maui Mountains. It is a difficult climb, and there’s very little shade along the way. In the whale season, you might see a humpback whale in the ocean. You’ll also cross the middle of the Kaheawa wind farm. It’s a historical hike, marked by posts along the way where you can read stories about the history of Hawaii.

What Do You Bring?

The guides for each tour pack many of the necessities, like an ice chest, sunscreen, and a first aid kit. You’ll want to dress comfortably, wearing tennis shoes and appropriate clothing. A hat is a good idea to protect your face from the sun and the glare. Bring your camera and sunglasses. You might want to pack a backpack if you’re carrying dry clothes and your swimsuit.
